A CDC spokesperson recently told NBC News that the agency stopped comprehensively tracking breakthrough cases in May of 2021.
At the time the agency ceased their tracking of the data, the numbers showed only 10,262 cases across the U.S. where a fully vaccinated person had tested positive for COVID-19.
In the months since, and especially in just the past few weeks, the number of vaccine breakthrough cases has grown exponentially, and so have hospitalizations and deaths among the fully vaccinated population.
Even though the CDC stopped attempting to track these cases, some states are still trying to. Bloomberg News recently gathered data from several states and has identified at least 111,748 vaccine breakthrough cases through the end of July.
The data, while limited and unorganized, indicates that breakthrough cases have surged to more than 10 times the amount recorded in the CDC’s end-of-April tally.
Even among states that track cases closely, officials caution that the data is incomplete because vaccinated people who are infected and asymptomatic are likely largely missing from statistics.
According to new data published, about three-fourths of people infected in a Massachusetts Covid-19 outbreak were fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, with four of them ending up in the hospital.
According to a recent report from the New York Times, a person working in partnership with the CDC on investigations of the delta variant, spoke about the breakthrough cases on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak.
The anonymous source said the data came from a July 4 outbreak in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Genetic analysis of the outbreak showed that people who were vaccinated were transmitting the virus to other vaccinated people. The source said the data was “deeply disconcerting” and a “canary in the coal mine” for scientists who had seen the data.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, health authorities in Los Angeles said new COVID-19 cases among the full vaccinated population have risen to almost 30% in the past couple of weeks.
According to another recent report from California, several counties with above-average vaccination rates now have higher COVID case rates, while case rates are falling in counties with below-average vaccination rates.
Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, the director of the CDC, recently acknowledged that vaccinated people in the US with infections of the Delta variant carry just as much virus in the nose and throat as unvaccinated people, and may spread it just as easily.
In states that publish the data like Utah, breakthrough cases have exponentially accelerated in the past two months.
In Utah at the beginning of June, just 8 percent of the new cases in the state were breakthrough cases. As of July 26, this number had risen to 20 percent according to state data.
In Virginia, total cases among fully vaccinated individuals resulting in death more than doubled from mid-June through July 29th.
The associate director of the Emory Vaccine Center, Walter A. Orenstein, recently said he was shocked by the data showing vaccinated people shed just as much virus as those who were not vaccinated.
A recent study also found that the current vaccines do next to nothing to help the body’s CD8 T-cells, which is the key to long-term immunity.
Some news outlets have begun to contact health agencies across the US to collect information in the complete absence of comprehensive data from the CDC on breakthrough cases.
Jasmine Reed, a CDC spokesperson recently sent an email to NBC News saying that “state and local health departments continue to report breakthrough cases to the CDC to identify and investigate patterns or trends among hospitalized or fatal vaccine breakthrough cases,” while the agency stopped publicly releasing that data on May 1.
CDC’s most recent published data says that as of July 26 there have been 6,587 hospitalizations among fully vaccinated Americans and 1,263 deaths.
On Independence Day, Dr. Anthony Fauci answered a question on Meet The Press about deaths specifically for June by saying that “if you look at the number of deaths, 99.2 percent of them are unvaccinated.”
Fauci’s answer would mean that only about 80 vaccinated people – 0.8 percent of 10,000 – died in June.
Just in the imprecise snapshot of data we have, we can see the numbers are much higher than this and increasing every day.
In Israel, England, Scotland, and several other countries, statistics on hospitalizations and deaths have three categories – “fully” vaccinated, “partially” vaccinated, and “unvaccinated.”
In all three countries, hospitalizations and deaths have risen since May – and vaccinated people have accounted for more than 50% of the cases, hospitalizations, and in some cases of the deaths recently. Israel only used the Pfizer vaccine, and the United Kingdom used a mix. When broken down by different vaccines, the same results are found.
According to the latest data out of Israel, Israelis are currently seven times more likely to be infected with COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated than those who have obtained natural immunity.
In Singapore, officials recently reported 1,096 locally transmitted cases in the last 28 days, of which 44%, were fully vaccinated people, and 30% were partially vaccinated, with the remaining 25% being unvaccinated.
In the US, much of this data missing from the CDC, while many individual states have failed to record it. When there are statistics on hospitalizations or deaths among the fully vaccinated available, the people that have received one dose are ignored.
Vaccine companies and the government are beginning to acknowledge the overwhelming scientific evidence that suggests the vaccines begin to lose their protective effect after a few months, and that many people will need boosters soon.
The Guardian recently published another report showing that the vast majority of India’s population have antibodies to the virus despite only 6 to 13 percent of people being fully vaccinated.
The national survey shows 68% of Indians have SARSCoV2 antibodies, compared to 25% in January and 1% last spring. Experts say this is why cases and deaths have plunged so fast since May, even though few Indians are fully vaccinated.

“If the new finding is right that 67.6% Indians surveyed have Covid antibodies, India may be close to herd immunity. Why vaccinate those previously infected? An Israeli study shows immunity via natural infection is a bit stronger than vaccinated immunity.”
According to a recent report from Reuters, Pfizer is set to reap massive financial benefits from their vaccine sales as the company becomes the preferred jab.
According to the first-quarter results published by Pfizer this week, its coronavirus jab has racked up revenues of $3.5bn for the biopharma giant in the first three months of 2021.
The financial results also revealed that Pfizer has vastly exceeded its Covid-19 vaccine sales forecast of $15bn, and now expects the jab to bring in over $30bn of revenue in 2021 – an increase of 73% on previously anticipated figures.
“Pfizer Inc raised its 2021 sales forecast for its COVID-19 vaccine by 29% to $33.5 billion and said it believes people will need a third dose of the shot developed with German partner BioNTech to keep protection against the virus high.
The company said it could apply for an emergency use authorization (EUA) for a booster dose as early as August.”
Pfizer is also apparently working on treatments for COVID-19, while over 700 studies already show there are several extremely successful FDA-approved treatments currently on the market.
