We have heard a lot about Anti-Asian attacks amid the outbreak of COVID-19 in the United States. Some media outlets blamed President Trump’s rhetoric, claiming without evidence that the rise in Anti-Asian biased incidents is fueled by President Trump referring to COVID-19 as the ‘Chinese Virus.’
Outside of the fact that almost every media outlet also used this label to describe the virus on numerous occasions, recent numbers show that the perpetrators of these recent attacks aren’t even Trump’s supporters. Most of the attackers probably haven’t even voted in their lives at all.
It’s important to note that Black on Asian attacks, especially in San Francisco, is nothing new. The Pulitzer prize-winning SF Gate once documented this ongoing issue in an article published in 2010.
In a list compiled of all of the attacks on Asians in the US where the offender was known and reported, most of the perpetrators of the crimes were black.
The most serious attack of them all, a mass stabbing of an Asian family at a Sam’s Club supermarket, was perpetrated by a Hispanic man. Imagine if that attack was perpetrated by a white man, what would the media say?

Statistically, these perpetrators are either consistent voters for the Democratic party and hate Trump, or they are completely apolitical.
The Asian American community was outraged recently over the death of an elderly Asian man after a brazen attack by a black male in San Francisco. Many were quick to blame District Attorney Chesa Boudin following recent actions of the DA to release thousands of violent criminals back onto the street.
Boudin’s parents, members of the radical Weather Underground, took part in a robbery that left dead two New York police officers, as well as a Brink’s truck guard. He was raised by Weather Underground founder and one-time FBI Most Wanted Bill Ayers.
Back in February, a Disturbing video showed an elderly man collecting cans in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood and then being assaulted and reduced to tears.
The San Francisco district attorney’s office withdrew charges and pursued a “restorative justice” model against the 20-year-old man arrested in the attack. District Attorney Chesa Boudin campaigned heavily last year on a progressive criminal justice platform that included restorative justice, which relies on reconciliation with victims over the punishment of offenders.

Boudin came under fire again in January of 2021 for the deaths of two pedestrians on New Year’s Eve who were run down in an intersection by a 45-year-old parolee. Another unidentified assailant was caught on surveillance camera pushing a 91-year-old man to the ground in a recent unprovoked attack in Oakland Chinatown.
The incident happened outside the Asian Resource Center at the corner of Harrison and 8th streets on Jan. 31, according to ABC7. Oakland police announced that the suspect has been arrested and charged in the brazen, violent attack. Police say they believe the suspect in the incident also attacked a 60-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman that same day.
Media Drops ‘Asian Hate’ Story, as it Becomes Impossible to Blame White People for Attacks Which Have Only Increased
For the most part, the media does not care to report on interracial attacks unless the perpetrator of the attack is white. The scarce reporting on the demographic characteristics of perpetrators of interracial attacks, in general, is a great example of this.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics released its 2018 survey of criminal victimization. According to the study, there were 593,598 interracial violent victimizations (excluding homicide) between blacks and whites last year, including white-on-black and black-on-white attacks.
Blacks committed 537,204 of those interracial felonies or 90 percent, and whites committed 56,394 of them or less than 10 percent. In 2012-13, blacks committed 85 percent of all interracial victimizations between blacks and whites; whites committed 15 percent.Blacks are also over-represented among perpetrators of hate crimes—by 50 percent—according to the most recent Justice Department data from 2017; whites are underrepresented by 24 percent. This is particularly true for anti-gay and anti-Semitic hate crimes.
